Love Begets Love

Gabrielle Odowichuk and Marie Metaphor Specht are both accomplished artists in their own right and Love Begets Love is their first collaborative series. The concept evolved out of in-depth conversations on the nature of love and the web-like networks of interpersonal relationships in a community. These conversations took place over the hundreds of hours the 2 artists spent together so far, carefully crafting heart-shaped, tissue paper lanterns. Each handcrafted heart is imbued with these discussions. The result is an ever growing and changing collection of modular pieces that can be installed in countless iterations allowing the artists to deeply explore these themes while adapting the installation to suit the site and the audience.

Together Gabrielle and Marie aim to create dream-like spaces that inspire both thoughtful contemplation and a sense of magic. Gabrielle is an artist-engineer developing sound-reactive lighting technologies, and Marie Metaphor Specht is a multi-disciplinary visual artist and spoken word poet. The combination of these unique skills and experiences has resulted in the deep exploration of light, form and visual metaphor that is Love Begets Love. The work uses cutting edge lighting technologies, (the Aurora system from Limbic Media), in combination with delicate, hand-made sculpture to create an unexpected harmony of traditionally exclusive forms. This work is a physical manifestation of the conversations between these two creative minds and is a collaboration in the truest sense of the word.
